At the Slovenia
border our passports were briefly looked at by the customs official.
The stop at the border was no longer than 15 minutes.
It was another hour drive from the border to the Slovenia capital of Ljubljana. We
didn't stop since we were coming back to Ljubljana in 2 days. The entire drive from
Zagreb to Lake Bled was about 3 ½ hours.
As we approached the Lake Bled area there are beautiful snow-capped
mountains of the Julian
Alps.
It was 6 p.m. when we arrived at Lake
Bled. A cocktail
party with wine/juice was a nice welcome before dinner.
The Toplice Hotel was on the lakeshore. We had fantastic rooms overlooking the lake. There
is a 3½ mile paved path around the lake. One evening we walked
about half way around and then came back. The night picture on
the photo page was taken on the walk. The path is lighted by
post lamps - very picturesque.
Across the lake was Bled Castle that we could see from our hotel
balcony. I have some great pictures taken at different times of
the day. We had a half day tour of the castle and have some
great pictures from the castle courtyard overlooking the lake.
From our balcony we also had a great view of Mt.
Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia at 9400 feet. It is one of
the symbols of the country.
The next morning was a trip by "pletna"
boat to the only Slovenia island
which is at one end of the lake with the Church of the
Assumption.
From Lake Bled we made half-day trips to Ljubljana and the alpine village of
Bohinj
