Henry Walter
1842 - 1914

Henry Walter was born in Mar 1842 in Bavaria.  He immigrated in 1860 and married about 1864

In the 1870 census, Henry was 27 years old, born in Bavaria.  He was living with his wife, 2 children and his mother in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania.  The value of his real estate was $1,500 and personal estate was $200.   He was working as a laborer.  He was a citizen of the U.S.

In the 1880 census, Henry was 36 years old.  He was working as a laborer, living on Lehigh Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  He was living with his wife and 3 children.

In the 1890 Wilkes-Barre City Directory, Henry was living at 54 Lehigh Street with his mother, Margaret.  Henry was working as a laborer.

In the 1900 census, Henry was 58 years old, born Mar 1842.  He immigrated in 1860.  He was married 36 years.  He was working as a day laborer.  He lived with his wife and 3 children at 80 Lehigh Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  He owned his home with a mortgage.

In the 1910 census, Henry was 67 years old.  He immigrated in 1860 and was a naturalized citizen.  He owned his house without a mortgage.  He was living with his wife and 4 youngest children at 26 William Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

   Henry Walter, aged 71, a well known German resident, died late Monday night at his home, 26 William Street, after an illness of complications. Mr. Walter was born in Germany and came to this section about fifty years ago. He was a communicant of St. Nicholas German Catholic Church and a member of the men's societies. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Albert Bowman and Mrs. Lawrence Eckenrode of this city, Mrs. C.J. Lohr of Philadelphia, Henry of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Frances, at home. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from the family home. A high mass will be celebrated in St. Nicholas Church at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery on Darling Street.

   The funeral of Henry Walter was held yesterday morning at 9 o'clock from the family home, 26 William Street. A high mass of requiem was celebrated in St. Nicholas German Catholic Church at 9:30 by Rev. C.J. Goeckel. Interment was in St. Nicholas Cemetery on Darling Street. The following young men of the Young Men's Society of the church, of which the deceased was a member, acted as ball bearers: Conrad Messimer, Charles Griesmer, John Hochreiter, Henry Metzgar, John Miller and Conrad Ridlinger.
