Juneau Ι

Roberts Tramway
We arrived in Juneau on Monday, July 14 at about 2 p.m. The
weather was cloudy our entire visit.
The local guide told us the city just had 164 days of non-stop
rain. So the overcast skies today were not too bad.
We had a trip to Mendenhall Glacier, the
Macaulay Salmon Hatchery and
even had an hour to ride the Mt. Roberts Tramway to the top of the
mountain overlooking Juneau.
The 40 miles of paved highway around Juneau were
"paved with gold" – tailings from
the gold mining industry. The highway was actually a loop road out
to Mendenhall Glacier and back to Juneau.
At 10:30 p.m., the ship was departing
Juneau
to arrive in Skagway
at 6 a.m. on July 15. During
the night we traveled 101 nautical miles at an average speed of 15.1
knots. At
Skagway
we disembarked to continue our land tour.
