Joseph L. Purcell (son of William J. Purcell and Mary Anna O'Donnell) was born on 2 Oct 1896. 

In the 1930 census, Joseph was 34 years old and married 6 years.  He was living at 47 Moyallen Street, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.  His rent was $25 a month.  He lived with his wife, 3 sons and his (wife's) aunt, Mary Cronauer.  Joseph was working in the Advertising Department of a Dry Goods store.

He died on 10 Jun 1986 in the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, Pennsylvania.

Joseph L. Purcell, 89, formerly of Pioneer Avenue, Trucksville, died Tuesday (10 Jun 1986) in the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

Born in Freeland, son of the late William J. and Mary Anna O'Donnell Purcell, he attended St. Ann's High School, Freeland, and Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Purcell was employed for 40 years as the promotions manager of the Boston Store, Wilkes-Barre.  He was a past director of the Pennsylvania Retailers Association, a three-term director of the National Retail and Dry Goods Association and a member of the board of directors of Penn State University, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dr. James D., Wilkes-Barre, and Bernard, Kingston.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Walters Purcell, Dallas; sons, William F., Harveys Lake, Joseph W., Dallas, Attorney James L., Garden City, NY, and Robert L., Syossett, NY; daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary T.) Siani, Warren, NJ; 24 grandchildren; three great-children.

Funeral will be Friday at 9:30 from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Therese's Church, Shavertown.
