Joseph L. Purcell, 89, formerly of Pioneer Avenue, Trucksville, died
Tuesday (10 Jun 1986) in the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.
Born in Freeland, son of the late William J. and
Mary Anna O'Donnell Purcell, he attended St. Ann's High School, Freeland, and
Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his
retirement, Mr. Purcell was employed for 40 years as the promotions manager of
the Boston Store, Wilkes-Barre. He was a past director of the Pennsylvania
Retailers Association, a three-term director of the National Retail and Dry
Goods Association and a member of the board of directors of Penn State
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dr.
James D., Wilkes-Barre, and Bernard, Kingston.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Walters Purcell,
Dallas; sons, William F., Harveys Lake, Joseph W., Dallas, Attorney James L.,
Garden City, NY, and Robert L., Syossett, NY; daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary T.)
Siani, Warren, NJ; 24 grandchildren; three great-children.
Funeral will be Friday at 9:30 from the Harold C.
Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with Mass of Christian Burial
at 10 in St. Therese's Church, Shavertown.
