Franziska (Frances) Walter
1824 - 1912


Franziska (Frances) Walter was born in Weitersweiler2, Rheinpfalz3 (Bayern) on 25 Sep 1824.  She emigrated to the United States with her husband in 1851.

In the 1860 U.S. Federal Census, Frances was "25" years old, born in Germany.  She lived with her husband, two daughters, Barbara (age 9) and Cassy (age 6) and a son Christian (1 month old).  All the children were born in Pennsylvania.   The family was living in Wilkes-Barre Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

In the 1870 census, Frances was 45 years old, born in Bavaria. She resided with her husband, Casper, children, Barbara, Catherine, Christian, Peter, and Frances. They resided in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

In the 1900 census: "Francesca" was 75 years old, born in Germany in Oct 1824, married 53 years, had 8 children with 5 still living in June 1900.  Year of immigration was 1851.  She was able to read, write and speak English.  Both her parents were born in Germany.

She died  on 20 Oct 1912 in Wilkes-Barre.  At the time of her death, she was living at 36 Lehigh Street in Wilkes-Barre.  She is buried in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Darling Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

 Mrs. Franziska Goetz, aged 88, died at the home of her son-in-law, Fred Schuler, 118 Hazle Street, on Sunday morning of heart trouble.  She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred G. Schuler, Mrs. Henry Fastadend and Mrs. Frank Kaiser.  The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, with a requiem high mass in St. Nicholas Church at 9:30.  Interment in St. Nicholas Cemetery.  Friends will kindly omit flowers.  The funeral of Mrs. Franziska Goetz took place yesterday morning from the home of Fred Schuler, 118 Hazle Street.  Rev. Father Baltes celebrated a high mass of requiem in St. Nicholas Church and interment was in St. Nicholas Cemetery on Darling Street.  The pall bearers were George, Frank, Fred and Ralph Schuler, Theodore and Simon Kaiser.
