Information sheet on Chongqing - provided by the cruise tour company.

We arrived in Chongqing (Apr. 12)  after a 4 hour bus ride from Chengdu.  We arrived in Chengdu from Lhasa after a flight over the mountains.   Chongqing had the worst polluted air we have ever seen.

Chongqing is a heavy industrialized city and exporter, mainly by the Yangtze River which is navigable all the way to the South China Sea.  The main source for the power plants is coal.  What a price to pay for having cheap energy.

Chongqing has a population of 33 million.  It's history dates back 3,000 years.  During World War II, the Nationalist government made it their wartime capital and the base to fight the Japanese.
